The whole chapter narrows to a single silence: on the night Egypt will scream, not a dog will so much as growl at Israel — the audible proof that YHWH distinguishes between the two peoples, the distinction climaxing at last on the firstborn.
Exodus Exodus 10:1-29
At the ninth plague the God who said 'let there be light' says 'let there be darkness' — the same jussive, the opposite noun — and Egypt reverts to the uncreated dark while Israel keeps the only light in all of Exodus.
Exodus Exodus 9:1-35
At the seventh plague the line that ran between Israel and Egypt now runs through Egypt itself: one of Pharaoh's own servants feared the word of YHWH and brought his household to shelter — the canonical debut of the Gentile God-fearer.

At the fourth plague God draws a visible line through Egypt — and the noun he uses to name that line is not a separation word at all. It is the word the Psalms use for 'redemption.'
Exodus Exodus 7:1-25
Everyone knows the summary: Pharaoh hardens his heart, then God takes over. But the Hebrew tells it by binyan, and the first verse where YHWH is the grammatical subject of the hardening verb is not where we expect — it is plague six.
Exodus Exodus 5:1-23
Pharaoh answers the demand with a question — 'Who is YHWH that I should obey his voice? I do not know YHWH.' The whole plague cycle is the answer to that question, and this chapter ends not in rescue but in bricks without straw and a prophet's complaint.
