Genesis ends not with resolution but with a coffin and a promise. The same evil the brothers devised against Joseph, God devised for good; and the same God who turned that evil will surely visit Israel to bring them up from Egypt. The book closes pointing past itself to the Exodus.

At Beersheba, on the edge of the land, God answers the one fear that could have frozen the story: the fear of going down. 'I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will surely bring you up again' — the first divine descent that is not judgment but covenant accompaniment, and the founding charter of the Exodus.

Abraham buys a tomb in a land he was promised, calls himself a sojourner before the Hittites, and coins the vocabulary the New Testament will speak to the diaspora.
