At his deathbed Jacob blesses Joseph's sons with three names for one God — the God of his fathers, the God who shepherded him, and the Angel who redeemed him — bound under a single verb. The grammar makes the Angel God, and gives the canon its first Redeemer and its first divine Shepherd in one breath.
Genesis Genesis 47:1-31
Aged and dependent on Egyptian grain, Jacob blesses Pharaoh twice. Israel multiplies in exile. A dying oath binds the patriarch's body to Canaan. The covenant blessing proves portable, the land of sojourning still home.
Genesis Genesis 33:1–20
Jacob bows seven times, calls his gift to Esau 'my blessing'—the very word that was stolen—and sees in his brother's face the face of God. The reconciliation that resolves Genesis 27, framed in the vocabulary of worship.
Genesis 12:1-9
Two pericopes after Babel's tower falls, Yahweh speaks one man's name into a world that had just tried to name itself. The same noun (shem) recurs in deliberate inversion: humans cannot make a name for themselves, but Yahweh can give one. Gen 12:1–9 is the canonical answer to Babel, and the answer is one called man — walking, building altars, calling on Yahweh's name — whose seed will carry blessing back to all the clans of the ground.
